Parker powers to another victory

Saturday, March 2, 2019, 12:36 PM GMT

Lauren Parker took the crown at the Devonport World Cup in Tasmania today, beating world champion Emily Tapp across the tape again just like she took the ITU Oceania Paratriathlon Championships title in Newcastle six days ago.

Despite the tough racing and conditions last week, Parker pulled up quite well to lead the race in Devonport wire-to-wire. She said, “It was absolutely amazing out there in all three legs, getting a lead out of the swim and increasing that lead on the bike by three minutes, and I was able to enjoy the run and really stay controlled. I couldn’t ask for anything more.”

The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist is set on qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics next year, so to improve her finish from second here last year shows she is on the right track. “To cross the line today in first place, you know I’ve improved so much within the last year, so I’m so happy and couldn’t ask for anything better.”
