When Sebi’s father took him to see his first triathlon at age 8, he knew he wanted to be a professional triathlete. Early in his career competed in short-distance triathlons as an elite junior and competed in offroad triathlons. His bike strength had attracted the attention of cycling teams, but all he had ever wanted to do was Ironman Hawaii. Known as one of the new breed of German uberbikers in the mold of Jurgen Zack, Thomas Hellriegel, and Normann Stadler before him, Sebastian Kienle stamped his mark on the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in 2012 and 2013 with monster bike splits that left everyone in the dust. When Sebi finally took the title of 2014 Ironman World Champion not just with a dominating bike leg but also with a new personal record on the run, he made good on the promise he had shown as the first man to break the 8-hour barrier in his first ironman.
